BDO Alliance Recognizes Accordance as an Innovation Leader

The BDO Alliance 2026 Innovation Award caps a tax season of breakout growth that has put Accordance on the Forbes AI 50 Brink List, into hundreds of firms, and into the daily workflow of thousands of researchers.

This week, BDO Alliance USA, one of the largest associations of accounting and professional services firms in the country, named Accordance a recipient of its 2026 Innovation Award at the EVOLVE Conference in Las Vegas. The Innovation category honors firms that have made innovation central to their strategy and can show evidence of how that work has strengthened the broader Alliance community.

For a company that emerged from stealth a little over a year ago, sharing a stage with the most respected names in the profession is a milestone. It is also a signal from the practitioners themselves: partners, controllers, and tax leaders who do this work every day. Purpose-built, agentic AI for tax and accounting is a strategic firmwide investment.

The Forbes AI 50 Brink List

Last month, Forbes published its inaugural AI 50 Brink List, spotlighting the early-stage AI companies most likely to define the next chapter of the industry — twenty firms, averaging just two years old, raising fast and scaling faster. The list reflects a clear thesis from Forbes' editors and judges: the center of gravity in AI is shifting from general-purpose foundation models to vertical, agentic systems that solve specific, high-value problems with proprietary data and defensible expertise.

That is the bet Accordance has been making since the beginning: tax law is interpretive, jurisdictionally fragmented, and unforgiving of error. Generic chatbots cannot meet the bar. A multi-agent system trained against the full depth of federal, state, and international authority (and continuously benchmarked against gold-standard tax research questions) can. Being recognized on the Brink List alongside other category-defining vertical companies confirms that the broader market may be converging on a similar view.

Purpose-built AI is the Real Innovation

If you've used AI to clean up an email or summarize a meeting, you've met foundation AI — the general-purpose models behind tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini. These are generally good at emulating language and are impressive in their breadth.

For specialized work, a different category of AI exists: purpose-built or vertical models. While foundation models emulate answers to questions, a purpose-built model can be finely tuned to emulate the logic of particular domains.

For example, in the tax practice, when a client emails you a fact pattern, you run a process:

  1. Extract the fact pattern from whatever the client sent.

  2. Identify the issues and translate them into specific tax questions.

  3. Locate authority — the code sections, regs, rulings, and cases that govern.

  4. Evaluate that authority for relevance and weight.

  5. Develop recommendations, with the risks clearly declared.

A foundation model collapses all five steps into one and crafts a confident paragraph. Accordance, purpose-built for tax and accounting, runs each step with dedicated agents, cites primary sources inline, and shows its reasoning so you can audit it thoroughly. It takes a few more seconds than a one-shot answer from a generic model, but that speed-accuracy tradeoff is acceptable where a reliable research output can save hours versus manual research.

Being purpose-built also means Accordance can continue innovating specifically for tax and accounting: ensuring benchmarks are improving with each release and that every breakthrough in foundation models translates into real value for our clients.

With the growing recognition from the BDO Alliance and Forbes, and a fast-growing roster of clients it looks like we’re on the right track.
